1st DOCTORAL WORKSHOP IN ECONOMICS OF INNOVATION, COMPLEXITY AND KNOWLEDGE

The Vilfredo Pareto Doctorate Program of the University of Turin and BRICK, Collegio Carlo Alberto, are pleased to announce the 1st Doctoral Workshop in Economics of Innovation, Complexity and Knowledge. The aim of the workshop is to bring together PhD students from all around the world working in the broad field of economics of innovation and complexity. The Workshop will provide participants with great opportunity to network with peers who works on similar topics and to receive its feedback from both junior and senior scholars.

We invite PhD students in their 2nd and 3rd year to submit their extended abstract (max 1000 words) on the following topics:

  • Economics of innovation:

    • Supply oriented technology policy, R&D subsidies and incentives;

    • Demand oriented technology policy, public procurement;

    • Productivity and performance at firm level;

    • R&D returns and innovation;

    • Biased technological change and knowledge spillovers;

    • Absorptive capacities, connectivity and feedbacks;

    • Environmental Innovation and standards.

  • Complexity Economics:

    • Simulation models for economic analysis;

    • Behavioral economic analysis in symulation models;

    • Natural resources and common goods management;

  • Cognitive Economics:

    • Institutional Cognitive Economics;

    • Cognitive Path-dependence and economic analysis;

    • Cognitive theory and Evolutionary Economics.

We also welcome papers on the above topics that adopt Historical analysis as methodological approach.

The event will cover two days and will be held at the Collegio Carlo Alberto. In addition to parallel sessions, recognized scholars will provide keynote speeches. These Include Cristiano Antonelli (University of Turin & BRICK) and Dirk Czarnitzki (KU Leuven, BE, and ZEW, Mannheim, DE)

Practicalities

Registration: No registration fee is required.
Meals: Lunches and coffee breaks during the conference days will be provided by the organisation. A social dinner for all participants will be organised on Thursday, December 12.

Location

The workshop will be held at the Collegio Carlo Alberto in Moncalieri, a medieval town near Torino. The Collegio is housed in an historic building, which dates back to the XIII century and was rebuilt during XVIII century.
